Fall Lawn Maintenance You’ll be Thankful for in the Spring

Fall Lawn Maintenance You’ll be Thankful for in the Spring

Before you pack up the mower for the winter, finish Fall strong with some final maintenance you’ll be thankful for when Spring comes around.

    • Winterize your yard

November is the traditional time to apply winterizing fertilizer to your lawn. Apply after your grass starts growing but at least one month before the ground freezes. These extra nutrients will give your grass the strength it needs to push through to spring.

    • Rake the right way

Rake up your leaves before they suffocate your lawn and garden. Repurpose them as mulch around plants between planting rows in the vegetable garden, or add them to the compost bin. Up to 1 inch of leaves can be mown and mulched into your lawn.

    • Prune

Once the leaves have fallen and they’re dormant for the season, you can start pruning your deciduous trees and shrubs. Make sure you’re pruning properly, protecting the stem and any branches that may be growing.

    • Care for bulbs

After the leaves turn yellow, you can divide and transplant fall-blooming bulbs. This is also a great time to check in on your stored tender bulbs to make sure they’re in a cool, dry place.

    • Prep your tools

Now is a great time to prep, clean and sharpen your tools. Then they’ll be in top shape whenever you’re ready to pick them up again. Brush off dirt and debris and make sure they’re dry before you store them to prevent rust.

We hope these tips help keep your curb appeal up throughout the changing seasons. And, as always, Coldwell Banker Brown Realtors is here to help with all of your real estate needs.
